Thrifting Tips - Part 4

Part 4: Closing the deal
1. Reinspect each item! Always always double check the items you want to purchase to see if there is un-fixable damage!

2. Tally everything up and make sure you are within your budget!! If you are not, put items back that you were iff-y about or items that are ‘similar’ to items you already own! You want new and fresh things!

3. As you leave, tie your bag shut
to prevent from bringing home unknown things, such as bed bugs! I don’t say this to scare you, I say this because we all know that thrift stores are not the cleanest places, so we must shop with caution! Keep the bag tied shut until you take it to the washing machine!
Immediately wash all items (according to the directions on the tag)!

4. And now you have saved money and are dressing as stylish as always!

*Sorry part 4 was posted so late in the game... in all my craziness it was forgotten about until recently scrolling through my old posts! OOPS... But be sure go to refresh your mind on Part 1, Part 2, & Part 3 of Thrifting Tips...

Thrifting Tips - Part 3

Part 3: The fitting rooms

1. Enter the fitting room with arms full of items to try on! Now, there is no lucky number of items to try, but just remember to question yourself ‘do you really have everything that has potential’ (not just the things you think/know will work)! Potential items are key because it’s cheaper to buy an item from a thrift store and pair it with a belt or jacket to make it fit/wearable verses, going out and buying a brand new tailored shirt!

2. Take at least three items into the fitting room that you would have never tried on! This is a great way to try new things on a cheap dime! I know everyone has those styles they love, but think they could never pull off. Well, here is your chance to see (and not have to pay a fortune). It might just be your next best look!

3. While in the fitting room start pairing items & layering! This will help you picture the item with a full look... Be sure you can picture each item with at least 3 outfits you currently own! This helps you see if you’ll really wear it and will help you get the best use out of it!

Thrifting Tips - Part 2

Part 2: Pulling from the rack
1. As you walk into the thrift store always check the sign to see what color of tag is the sale item! This is key to finding the best deals and staying within your budget!

2. Personally, I always start at the sale rack! This allows me to see what my cheapest options are to start with! And I always just start pulling items, good finds and random ones that could have potential! The more items you have to try on, the more likely you’ll find something that works!

3.Whenever you pick up an item, always inspect its condition! You don’t want to end up with an item that has a hole in it or that has stains on it! [however, there are those times it might be worth it to buy something with a small error to it. If its missing a button, that’s a quick easy fix or a hole in the seam, easy to stick right up!]

4. Search all size racks! Thrift stores are always unpredictable with sizes due to the fact someone elses body-shape wore the item in! This is sometimes to our advantage, knowing the sizes are inaccurate, it’s ok to try things on in the wrong sizes (if you're a small, try on a large). Who knows if the item shrunk to fit your body-shape!

5. Don’t forget to be on the look out for your essential items! You want to stick to a focus and a style! Otherwise, you might get lost in the chaos of thousands of items!

Thrifting Tips - Part 1

For all of my lovely followers I have put together a
4 part series of Thrifting Tips
!
I am very excited to be bringing yall Part 1, today!

{Part 1: Before leaving home}

1. Pick several items you need that are key (essential) items! All of us seem to have that running list in our mind of recent things we really want or need to enhance our wardrobe. Pick a few things off the list to focus on finding during your thrift outing! [Be practical! Most likely you wont find those designer jeans you’ve been wanting, but you might find multiple floral pieces or a navy/white striped tee to create that nautical look that’s so popular!]

2. Budget, budget, budget! Yes - set a budget! I know for myself, I can always find an item that’s worth the money, being that thrift stores are so cheap. But, if I have a budget it forces me to pick things that are necessary and things that I’ll wear and utilize the most!

3. Don’t just plan on going to one thrift store! Chances are you won’t find the best deals or things you need. The more stores you go to, the more options you’ll have and the more chance you’ll have to find a great bargain! Make a list of the thrift stores in your area and plot out a route you’ll take! This helps utilize your time (and money), best!

4. Go ready and prepared to try on different clothes! Dress in easy to take off items, such as flip-flops, a simple tee or tank, and jeans! Because thrift stores sell all used items, it is essential to try on everything! No worries, part 3 of thrifting tips is specifically on ‘the fitting rooms’!

If you have questions or need things to be elaborated on, please just comment and let me know!
Now, its time to start preparing & planning for your thrift outing and check back next week for Part 2: Pulling from the rack!
